2 Weeks until the Election!

Only two weeks , 14 days, until we elect the President of the United States of America. It’s a big deal and I am looking forward to casting my vote.
To prepare myself, and you too, I’ve compiled an “Election” book display in the library lobby; below are a few  highlights.

The Swing Voter in American Politics is available in both print and electronic format. The book focuses on three questions: What exactly is a swing voter? How can we use data to determine who is and who is not a swing voter? What do we know about swing voters?
With two weeks left to go and many voters who could still go either way, this is definitely a book worth browsing.

America’s New Swing Region explores how the once solidly Republican   states of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, and New Mexico have become so open to more liberal ideas. One of the reason, among many, is that young people are replacing older people; people are also becoming more educated.  The book chronicles the demographics shift and asserts that political contests will only become more widespread and intense.

Get Out the Vote: How to Increase Voter  Turnout is a “practical guide to managing get-out-the-vote drives” including the technical results of a variety of experiments to get out the vote. Studies find that door-to-door efforts, phone banking, and commercial calls are statistically effective in getting out the vote. SO go!
The purpose of Campaign 2012: Twelve Independent Ideas for Improving American Public Policy is to “focus on the critical issues and provide independent policy ideas to the next administration.” The book is uniquely organized. A Brookings Scholar assesses the  Obama administration on each issue, the Republican critique of the issue, and then offers advice for the next administration on the issue. Two others critique the scholars analysis and present their own ideas.

The stakes are high for this election and I hope to see you at the polls!

:) Heidi
