Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Community: BALE

Thursday June 7th on the South Royalton Green, is  the BALE Fest, a “Celebration of All Things Local.” BALE,Building a Local Economy, is local organization which seeks to “redefine our community and economy in a way that strengthens our long-term resilience.”

I had a blast last year learning about Low-Power Community Radio, at the BALE festival.  And, this year, the group is back to spread the word about the late-summer launch of Royalton Community Radio. I am super excited to attend the festival this Thursday and learn about the interesting initiatives our neighbors are undertaking. Check out the complete schedule here.

In addition, be sure to check out the book display in the library lobby which has a collection of books related to shifting communities including:

The Transition Handbook: From Oil Dependency to  Local Resilience

Stirring it Up: How to Make Money and Save the World

Making a Place For Community: Local Democracy in a Global Era

There are also a number books related to agriculture, rural communities, energy, and land-use planning–and, all have an upbeat perspective!

See you on the Green, Thursday!
